We first met Nikki Knepper two and a half years ago at our first Mamacon conference in Bellevue, WA. She’s made the trek from the mid-west to the northwest twice now to talk about her blog and her latest book. Nikki, a Chicago girl born and raised, is one of a few very successful mommy bloggers (think major book deal).
She’s the brains and brawn behind “Moms Who Drink and Swear”. Even before meeting her, I’d see her pithy quotes and sassy comebacks posted on Facebook.
With her short blonde hair, glasses and suburban Chicago accent, I never would have guessed that she is the “Queen of Cussin’”….and boy does she like to cuss. If you’re not a fan of swearing, definitely DO NOT read Nikki’s blog. She says right in the title that it’s a “profanity laced blog” and calls her readers f$@$ers as a term of endearment.
Beyond the swearing and the references to drinking wine, Nikki is a licensed clinical counselor whose writing can sometimes touch on some pretty serious topics, in a hilarious way of course.
The first time I ever talked with Nikki we discussed writing about depression and the people she was able to reach and help through her blog. Some of her posts will make you laugh out loud and some are truly ridiculous rants about the most mundane aspects of parenting. Hope you’ll listen to our interview with her this week and our reading of one of her blog posts about experiencing parenting's blurred lines and boundaries.
